Advice and encouragement

The Inspectorate advises healthcare providers and medical technology manufacturers, and encourages them to devote due attention to responsible care. To do so, it uses various channels including circulars, articles in professional journals, and targeted information campaigns.

Advisory and incentive measures are generally applied in the following circumstances:

  • Where a care provider or manufacturer has requested advice about the provision of responsible care or a responsible product.
  • Where providers or manufacturers appear to be unaware of the current field norm(s).
  • Where the risks further to non-compliance with the norms are relatively minor.

Incentive measures draw the attention of care providers and manufacturers to examples of 'best practice' elsewhere. One incentive measure which also has a corrective effect is the 'proactive publication' of the Inspectorate's reports of its visits to health care institutions.
